Chalet Des Chutes sits in Sunriver, Oregon: the high-desert resort community on the Deschutes River, twenty minutes south of Bend. Our corner of it is the one we’d pick every time: an easy walk to the Village’s shops and restaurants, to SHARC’s pools and water slides, and to the pickleball courts at Fort Rock Park.
From the driveway, 40+ miles of paved bike paths thread through the pines to the river, the marina, and Benham Falls. Point the car the other way and you’re at Mt. Bachelor’s lifts in about twenty minutes. It’s the rare spot where you can park once and spend a whole week, summer or winter.

Sunriver’s aquatic and recreation center: indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, water slides, and hot tubs. Six passes come with the cabin. Walk over whenever.

Eighteen pickleball courts plus fields and playgrounds. Courts can be reserved up to three days ahead May through September.

Deschutes River at Harper Bridge
Put in at Harper Bridge for the classic 3–5 hour float to the Sunriver takeout, or try the Besson day-use horseshoe: our favorite hidden gem.
Ride from the door
Benham Falls Trail
The paved Deschutes River Trail runs from Sunriver out to the falls: roughly 10–12 miles round trip of easy, scenic riding. The bikes are on us.

Northwest powder without a long mountain drive. Ski or ride all day and still be back in the hot tub by dusk.

Getting Here
Planes, Passes & Pine-Lined Roads
Sunriver is an easy trip from either direction: fly into Redmond or road-trip down from Portland. Your booking confirmation includes the exact address and turn-by-turn directions.
Flying In: Redmond (RDM)
Roberts Field in Redmond is the closest airport. Four ways to cover the last stretch:
- Rental car: $50–75/day; the most flexible, and our recommendation for ski trips.
- Shuttle: $80–100 with Modus Transportation or Enviro Shuttle; book ahead.
- Rideshare: typically $110–140 to Sunriver.
- On a budget: a $13 daily bus stops at the Shell station about a mile from the cabin.
Driving from Portland
About 3.5 hours: take I-5 S, then US-97 S through Central Oregon to the Sunriver exit. The last hour is the pretty part: ponderosa forest, lava buttes, and Cascade views. Time it right and you’ll roll in just as the hot tub calls.
Winter Driving (Nov–Mar)
Snow is part of the charm. Plan for it. From November through March we recommend an AWD or 4WD vehicle, and always carry chains. Sunriver’s roads are well maintained, but high-desert storms move fast; check conditions before mountain drives.
When You Arrive
